Gandhi & Intl Day of Nonviolence
Starting in New Zealand on October 2, 2009, Gandhi’s birthday and the United Nations' "International Day of Nonviolence," the March will travel through six continents over a period of 90 days, ending on January 2, 2010 in the heights of the Andes Mountains. On its path it will be joined by millions of people who will publicly appeal for peace and the necessary to awaken a new social consciousness that will lead us towards a worldwide culture of nonviolence.
Many international figures and organizations have already endorsed the March, including; Desmond Tutu, Noam Chomsky, Dennis Kucinich, Arun Gandhi, Zubin Mehta, Juanes, Amnesty International Mexico, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Jose Saramago, Anna Belén, Daniel Berrigan, and Alejandro Jodorowsky.
