So how're Sammy + Copernicus doing??? Have they...melded yet? ; )

from Copernicus' mom and his adorable bunwife, Sammy...

Copernicus_sammy_1
Copernicus on left, Sammy on right

Hey there! They're attached at the hip.

Copernicus [on the left] is the dominant one and has taken over my bed. Sammy [on the right] doesn't like to be away from him so now she's constantly on my bed too.

I've never seen a rabbit go through so much food and water! He's a bottomless pit.

I don't think I could have found Sammy a better boyfriend. Thank you again.

Copernicus was one of our medical needs buns. He came from Alondra Park with a case of 'intentional tremors'. It's like Parkinson's that Michael J Fox has. It makes him unstable -- but very cute as he falls over.  The wobbles don't stop him At All.  : )

Your generosity makes if possible for us to care for dumped bunnies like Copernicus. He now has a bunwife and loving hooman, Kayden. We love you, Kayden!!!

Update on Peter, the one-eyed Easter bunny!

Dear Bunny Peeps,

Here's the latest news on Peter's progress!

Wednesday Peter was driven up the 405 Fwy to our bunder-vet, Dr. Schwartz who checked his overall health and examined his vacant eye socket.

We discovered...

Peter's eye is not infected! Yay! However the lids are not closed so the interior of his eye socket can be exposed to outside germs and debris. While he gets stronger, it needs to be flushed out daily with saline because the eye area still generates a white gooey substance (in which infection can breed).

Second, Dr S had a surprise for us. Peter is a 'SHE'.  Holy cow!  Well, we hadn't moved her much because we thought she was likely in pain. So, Ms. Peter was also proclaimed an unspayed, and fortunately, un-pregnant female. She needed a new name and she picked Serendipity, Ms Serendipity Peterbunny.

We thought it fit nicely.  : )

So next, according to Dr Schwartz (our exceptional vet and surgeon), what will happen once she has gained some weight, the eyelids will need to be pulled apart and the eye socket cleaned out. Once that's accomplished he'll be able to sew the lids together and close the area off to germs.  She'll also have her spay surgery done.  We estimate the cost -- with meds (about $100), a (major? minor?) surgery (about $350-$700) and the spay surgery (about $200) -- may be as much as $1,000 or hopefully less at around $600.

Here's a picture of her in her luxury medical suite at RabbitMatch.org.  ; )

Serendipity_2

Thank you all for caring for her welfare. We know lotsa bunny prayers have been making their way skyward.  : )

You can guarantee Serendipity and the 12 very hungry bunnies still behind a locked fence at the park to survive and find A+ indoor homes.

Priscilla on Daily Bunny!!!

Priscilla and her human Becky are fell in love a long long time ago at RabbitMatch.org when Becky was a volunteer with us. We still miss them both...

Priscilla

"These holes I nibbled?  Oh, well, um... I heard a story on NPR about bedbugs and I just wanted to make sure you were safe... Good news.  We're clear!!  No need to thank me..."

:P  Thanks, Becky, for the cute photo of Priscilla!  Believe it or not, Priscilla used to be Confucius' neighbor in the shelter in LA!  Sender-inner Becky started volunteering with RabbitMatch when Confucius was in residence, and at some point this beautiful girl (above) was in the cage next to him!  And now she lives with Becky in Portland, OR and, as Becky reports, "could generally not be happier."  Awww!!  So, to RabbitMatch, shoutout from Becky and Priscilla: "Mostly, I want all those fabulous people at RabbitMatch to know that we are doing so well"!  Yay for happy buns and people :D

Update! on Peter, our one-eyed Easter bunny rescue-in-progress!

Hi everybun!

Peter is now living temporarily in our volunteer Tanti's bathroom. (thank you, Tanti!)

His eye socket is oozing (shown in the picture below) which could mean it's infected or...?? It definitely needs to be diagnosed (this week) and cleaned out, fixed or...???

Peter_one_eyed_bun_2

Peter has enough $$ to see Dr Schwartz for a diagnosis and, undoubtedly, pain meds and antibiotics. His next hurdle is/may be surgery or, at the very least, something like it.

He needs your help to take this vital step.

Please save Peter this Easter. It's a great lesson in compassion for us and our kids, too.

Help now.

Your heart and Peter will thank you.

Amami rabbit is one of the most primitive lagomorphs in the world...

Media_httpwwwedgeofex_uzgty

Evolutionary Distinctiveness
Order: Lagomorpha
Family: Leporidae
The only species in its genus, the Amami rabbit is one of the most primitive lagomorphs in the world. It is so different from other rabbits and hares that it is considered to belong to an early branch of the main rabbit-hare evolutionary tree. Its ancestors are believed to have diverged from other leporids between 10 and 20 million years ago, about half as long ago as ancestral rabbits separated from pikas...read more... http://www.edgeofexistence.org/mammals/species_info.php?id=44
