Senate Bill Banning 'street' sales of Animals is signed by Governor Brown!!!!

Please cross post everywhere!!!!

Rabbit_for_sale
California got it right!!!

Senate Bill 917 is Signed into Law!

This is great news for all animals, especially the all-too-familiar Santee Alley baby bunnies sold in downtown Los Angeles!  Please email Senator Ted Lieu and thank him for introducing the bill and fighting to make sure it passed and also to Governor Brown for signing the bill.  Believe it or not, there was much opposition to the bill by rabbit breeders [ugh!] and dog breeders and canine AKC clubs, etc…

Please let them know how thankful we are for their efforts.  The bill goes into effect on January 1, 2012!

good info on washing veggies for your bunbuns...

home vegetable wash

It's important to wash your veggies before feeding. Here's a recipe for
an inexpensive home vegetable wash: 2 cups water, 2 cups vinegar, 2
T baking soda and 2 T lemon juice.) Water and soap alone won't remove
most pesticides as they are designed to adhere to the fruit through rain and
other pollutants. You actually need a little acid (vinegar and lemon juice)
to break them. You can keep the wash in a spray bottle, just spray, let it sit for several
seconds, then rinse off.

Vote for San Diego House Rabbit Society @ The Animal Rescue Site!!!

Welcome to The Animal Rescue Site $300,000 Shelter+ Challenge of 2011
— with Petfinder.com.

Now you can help The Animal Rescue Site choose which eligible Petfinder.com animal rescue organizations will receive special funds to help animals! It's easy:

 · Select your Country and (if U.S. or Canada) State/Province.
 · Optional fields accept partial (but not misspelled/inaccurate) information.
 · You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization.

Voting begins Monday, July 4th!

Having trouble finding your favorite Petfinder.com rescue organization?

Please double-check your spelling to make sure it's correct and matches your organization's exact name. If you're not sure, use just part of their name, spelled correctly. It'll turn up!
Note that "optional" fields are not required for your search, and that they accept partial information. For example, you could enter "Lon" instead of "London" in the "City" field, and "Fluff" or "Farm" instead of "Fluffy's Famous Farm For Family Furballs" in the "Shelter Name" Field.
Since U.S. Territories, such as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, are part of the international category, they can now be found using the Country dropdown rather than the U.S. state dropdown.
Remember that, to be eligible, the rescue organization must be a registered member of Petfinder.com!

How long is the Challenge, and how can we increase our chances?
This voting round begins on July 4, 2011, and ends at midnight (PT) on September 18, 2011. There will be other voting rounds throughout the year - more chances for your organization to win! The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! Your favorite rescue organization is counting on you!

What kind of grant could my shelter win?
Sixty-nine (69) grants will be awarded for a total of $75,000 to eligible Petfinder.com members during the third voting round of the 2011 Challenge. Final prizes will go to the eligible Petfinder.com organization with the highest accumulative votes for the duration of the Challenge as specified in the rules.

The Prizes Are:
Grand Prize:  One $5,000 grant!
Funny Fluffy Photo Caption Contest:  Two $2,000 grants, & two $1,000 grants!
State Winners*:  Fifty-one $1,000 state grants
  (50 U.S. states and Washington D.C.)
Canadian Winners*:  One $1,000 grant will be awarded.
International Winner*:  One $1,000 grant will be awarded.
Weekly Winners*  Eleven $1,000 grants will be awarded, one for each week of this voting round of the Shelter+ Challenge.

Under the rules of the 2011 Shelter+ Challenge:
  · No group may win more than one Grand Prize in 2011. Winners of the Grand Prize are not eligible for state or regional grants during the same voting round, but are eligible for all other prizes. We congratulate Villalobos Rescue Center and Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc., our first and second Grand Prize winners of 2011!
  · Weekly Winners are not eligible for Regional (State, Canadian, or International) awards during the same voting round. Weekly Winners are not excluded from Grand prizes and Special prizes.
  · The Challenge Champion of the previous year is ineligible for Grand prizes during the current year. The previous year's Challenge Champion remains eligible for other prizes, including weekly or state prizes.

*The Petfinder.com organization with the most votes from each U.S. state, one in Washington D.C., one in Canada, and one organization located internationally will receive a grant of $1,000 at the end of the current voting round of the Challenge. Winners of the Grand Prize and of Weekly Prizes are not eligible for state or regional grants during the same voting round — the award will go to the next eligible organization with the highest accumulative votes as specified in the rules.

**Each weekly voting period begins on a Monday and ends at midnight PT the following Sunday. Participants are eligible for only one weekly prize during each voting round of the Challenge. Winners of a weekly prize are no longer eligible for regional (State, Canada, and International) prizes during the same voting round. Winning a weekly prize does not prevent an organization from receiving the Grand Prize — so keep voting!

Can you help Brambley Hedge? They'll transport these kids to a safe place anywhere!

Sent: Mon, Jul 11, 2011 9:56 am

Subject: Large Rescue - Can you help?

Maybe you could help or pass this on to someone you know who could help with this situation.  If you are full, we understand, and a simple reply of "we have no room" would be helpful.

Brambley Hedge always tries to respond to requests for any bunnies in need. Our shelter and all our foster homes are completely filled up, overflowing in fact and we are way over capacity. When we received this call for help we had to say we were full. In an effort to keep these bunnies from being euthanized we are reaching out to shelters all over the country.

There are approximately thirty plus bunnies in urgent need of homes. All of these bunnies are adults, between the ages of one to four years old. They have all had health checks and they are all spayed or neutered.  Brambley Hedge will provide transportation to anywhere in the US that can offer shelter for these bunnies. Brambley will also provide micro chips for each bunny.

These are not Brambley Hedge bunnies, we are just trying to help and hope that some shelters somewhere will find a little more space. These rabbits do not have to all go to one place.

Please put your networks and friends to work on this.

You can send all inquiries to the above email address.  We will get back to you immediately.

Thanks so much,

Erika Smith Royal
