Long Beach rabbit TNR program off to a successful start! Woohoo!

Caffe Boa planning rabbit-based Easter menu

Caffe Boa, long noted for its creative use of local, organic and fresh ingredients, will celebrate Easter with a special brunch, as well as a six-course, prix-fixe, rabbit-based dinner.

The Easter Bunny better steer clear.

Both locations - the original in Tempe, and the Caffe Boa Bistro in Mesa - will offer an a la carte brunch of rabbit loin "Canadian bacon" eggs Benedict, brioche French toast and garlic scrambled eggs with salmon and warm cream cheese, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brunch is a la carte (with dishes ranging from about $9 to $12). Bottomless mimosas are an additional $19.95.

Caffe Boa executive chef Payton Curry, inspired by the tales of Alice in Wonderland, is preparing a six-course dinner based primarily on rabbit, which is appearing on the menus of more and more restaurants. Dinner is available from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and costs $65.

The dinners will consist of:

• Carrot soup with carrot soup with crispy rabbit confit.

• Rabbit-liver mousse crostini, fines herbes salad, quince mostarda, horseradish crème fraiche.

• Rabbit terrine with black truffle, celery root and parsnip slaw, black pepper buttermilk vinaigrette, brioche.

• Ravioli of rabbit, local beet pasta, arugula-walnut pesto, local radish slaw.

• Prosciutto-wrapped rabbit leg, white truffle omelet, braised black eyed peas.

• And, for dessert, carrot cake.

There is an alternative menu available for children. Reservations are required.

For a full list of Easter dining options, go to dining.azcentral.com.

Details: Brunch, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dinner, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. April 4. Caffe Boa, 398 S. Mill Avenue, Tempe. Caffe Boa Bistro, 2837 N. Power Road, Mesa. Brunch a la carte. Dinner, $65. 480-968-9112, cafeboa.com (Tempe); 480-981-2000, boabistro.com (Mesa).

Orleans captures a Mia!!! and goes home too!!

Our Orleans charmed Mia today.  She fell in love and adopted the little fuzzrocket.  ; )  He'll be going home after easter sunday (always a good impulse shopper sniffer outer). Good life, little bunny!

Here's Orleans story...who wouldn't fall for him...  ; )

Hi there!!!  It's me, Orleans, and I'm so excited about my first time at offsite adoptions  (2/12/10) I had to tell you all about it!!!  So I have a reputation with the RabbitMatch moms, you know??  I'm known as a little ruffian, just bursting with energy and passion for  the active  lifestyle.   My condo has that tornado survivor decor, you know???    The moms were afraid I'd get booted out of Centinela Feed in the first 5 minutes!!  But No Way!!!  I was in my element!!!   All my raisins were in the litterbox even though I was surrounded by new rabbits!!!    I ignored the phermones.   I was admired, petted, had laptime and demonstrated how a few rabbits love to have a chinrub!!  That's me!!!  Playdates??   Well......not this time.....

I persuaded the mom I needed a re-do of my mugshots.  At the same time we realized that I'm going into a massive shed!!  So I borrowed the mom's hat to cover the shaggy back.  The hedgehog came along  to do some camouflage.  What do you think???  The mom suspects I'm going into a growth spurt too.  I'm a dashingly handsome red dutchboy (tiny-x here please!!!) .  Your Bunny Olympics wannabe, Orleans

It's Orleans, checking in for Feb.'10. I weighed 5 lbs. 9 oz today, 2/1/10 but probably need to fill in my frame a little  more. I'm the most handsome, muscular, 90% dutch boy ever!!!!  I love to race madly around the rabbit run, tail held high in the air.  I make people laugh!!!!  Then I get a short head start and LEAP over the edge of the x-pen.  I'm probably a candidate for rabbit agility contests but the mom does not approve.  Something about a rabbit's delicate skeleton.  But I'm young and have no fear!!!  We need more visitors at RabbitMatch. I'm sending a special bunny mental vibration to you!!!!  Bunnykisses from Orleans.

Hi!!!  It is 12-20-09 and  I need to introduce myself.   I'm  Orleans,  the new boy at RabbitMatch.  I was a baby when I was sold at the Pet Store.    You knew that most of the animals those places peddle are sick or will become sick shortly, didn't you???   I already had  a few  earmites when I was bouncing around in their window.  Well, the people who bought me weren't interested in taking a $5 rabbit with ear issues  to the vet so I've suffered until now that I found my way to RabbitMatch.     I was instantly dosed w the good stuff that wipes out any and all icky skin parasites.

My birthdate is 1/1/09.  I weigh 5.5 lbs, a lean and muscular dutch-x boy.  I have a handsome cinnamon coat and the white blaze and collar.   Contrasts nicely with my deep brown eyes!!!!   I'm a very friendly, active, personable kind of bun.  I can't wait to make friends with a loving human!!!!  I'll bet you're in that category!!!  email the mom NOW!!!!! pls.????  Entreatingly yours, Orleans.

Long Beach City College Rabbit Rescue

Bunny Bunch is at it again. For years we have wanted to help the hundreds of rabbits that have been dumped at the Long Beach City College. One thing or another always stood in the way, but this winter we were able to come up with a plan.

Because we are already overloaded with rabbits at the Burrow and in foster care we are not able to take on another few hundred. We rescue our rabbits from the high kill shelters and don't want to stop doing that, so we thought it would be best to spay and neuter all of the rabbits at the college and then release them back to living on the grounds at the college; at least that way the breeding would end.

Of course we do not suggest that rabbits live outside but thought this plan was better than none.

Over the last couple of months rabbits have been taken to our vets for spaying and neutering. This last week, rabbits were set up in a building on the campus so we could do health checks and get them ready for Western University’s visit to spay and neuter one hundred rabbits.

We are looking for more vets to work with us on low cost spay and neuter so we can finish all the rest of the rabbits, which we are guessing to be about two hundred.

People think that releasing their unwanted rabbit into a nice green field, golf course, park, or college is a nice way for a rabbit to live. Nothing could be further from the truth. These are domestic rabbits, not wild rabbits. It is illegal to abandon a rabbit at the college, or anywhere else for that matter. There is a $500 fine for anyone caught doing so.

Many of the rabbits are killed by predators, run over, or even poisoned. When a domestic rabbit is put into a group of rabbits living outside they will not accept him and will fight for territory which results in bite wounds, torn ears, and other injuries. There is often disease running within groups of rabbits living outside. We have found that at least thirty percent of the rabbits show signs of syphilis. Many have fleas and mites too.

We are treating the sick rabbits for all of the above. When we have caught all of the rabbits, they will be spayed or neutered and healthy before they are released.

We are also looking for people to adopt these rabbits. If you are interested please go to our website and fill out an adoption questionnaire, or email caroline@bunnybunch.org. Ideally we would like to get them all into homes if possible. We will have some of these rabbits for adoption at the Orange County Pet Expo in April, plus will be holding adoption events in Long Beach after Easter.

Thank you to Long Beach City college for providing funding for spaying and neutering, and allowing us to come up with a plan to take care of all the rabbits. Also, for letting us use a building to house the rabbits during this program. Thank you to Best Friends for providing temporary crates for the rabbits and sending supplies. Thank you to Western University for offering low cost spay/neuter for eighty rabbits and caring for them after the surgery and to the staff who donated their time. Thank you to the local rabbit vets for proving low cost spay and neuter. And a big thank you to Donna and Jackie who work at LBCC for being there for the rabbits over the years and through this rescue.

We have set up a fund to help with medical costs for the sick and injured rabbits. Donations can be sent to The Bunny Bunch LBBC Rescue, P.O. Box 2583, Chino, CA 91708.

Unleashed: Easter bunnies aren't for everybody

With Easter only two weeks away, many parents and grandparents may consider adding something more than plastic grass, candy bunnies and Peeps to their children's Easter baskets.

Before buying beautiful live bunnies at local pet stores, families need to look beyond the baby rabbit's appeal as a cute holiday prop...

Harrrrummppphhhh!!!   Scorsese here  (3-15-10),  and YES, I AM smiling!!!!    It's one of those little bird lip smiles we bunnies put on when we're extremely disapproving.  You have no idea what I've been through.  My pal Toscanini will fill you in on the details.  Just look at me!!!  We fuzzy buns do not show well under primitive conditions.  I do hope you can see past all the schmutz which is a kind of a badge of honor on my little coat after what I've been through.  I know there is a big grooming project in my future.

I was born 10-1-09.  I weighed in at 4 lbs though I swear it's mostly fur.  I have lionhead genes!!!  I'd like to have a skirt and mohawk when I grow up but we'll have to see how those genes sort out.  Right now I'm luxuriating in my charming  denbox created with panache by a wonderful RabbitMatch volunteer who creates sets for The Industry.   I'm feeling more cheerful already!!!  I'm looking forward to your visit.  !!!!   arivederci  for now!!!!!   Your Scorsese.

Please! No more MotoPhoto [Easter] bunnies!

Easter is such a bad time of year for rabbits. In addition to all the people buying rabbits on impulse and having no clue about the unique needs of rabbits, we have all those photo studios offering to take photos of children with live rabbits. After the Easter photo shoots are over, the rabbits are either released into the wild, sold as snake food (yes) or...

Lucinda's happy...er, hoppy!!!!

s670a726583m2273679.jpg

We got this from Lucy's mom today...this is what makes our volunteering so worthwhile!  Yay us!

I was introduced to the great things that Rabbit Match does when I adopted my little bunny Lucinda (now Lucy) in Dec. of 08.  (She is doing very well by the way!!!  love her!!!)  Anyway - would love to do some volunteering for the bunnies!  Please contact me if you are in need of some help!  Thank you much!

p.s.  my availability varies, but i do always have a minimum of 3 hours per week, although at times the days may change - i put my best guesses down below.

and p.s.s.  As much as i would LOVE to foster another bunny, I don't think my boyfriend or Lucy would fare well with it...  Lucy alone is about as much as we can handle!  She's pretty feisty!

~

This was her original write up...she truly was/is a Warrior Princess.  ; )

Lucinda's December update.  Well, mom put up a photo of me that better expresses my warrior princess' self.  Yes, I'm in topnotch form at 6 lbs 13 oz.   I have Rabbitude to spare. Maybe because I'm a redhead??   I love the company of people who understand rabbits.  You're out there, I know you are....Wistfully, Lucinda.

October report from Lucinda. Well!! I never!! Lausanne was adopted to be the bunnybride of an easygoing bunnyboy. Love at first sight!! And here I thought I was the prettiest sister. (sigh). I've grown a bit. Mom wrote 5 lbs 15 oz on my weightchart. So there's a bit more of me, a red/white dutch-X girl to love!! Don't forget, I have bonding experience too!! Bunny kisses, Lucinda.

I weighed in at 4 lbs 8 ozs today. Mom says my birthdate is 2/08. My photos on the website don't do me justice. I am a stunning dutch-x redhead with a delicate white frothy pattern bib. I do want Mom to stop calling me one of the Dingbat sisters though, because I'm aiming for some class and culture here!! If I could live with Lausanne, bonding with any bunnyboy should be simplicity itself. Please come and make my lovely acquaintance. Love, Lucinda.

Hi, you'll notice Lausanne didn't say anything about me!! She's like that!! Actually we were abandoned together, stuffed into a tiny cage. What else is new?? We just couldn't work out the shared space thing so now we each have our personal RabbitMatch condo. I kind of miss cuddling with her but I guess an ultimate parting of ways is the rule for baby bunnies thrown together. Besides, she snores!! Just kidding!! As you can see, I'm the one with the sense of humor. I'm a petite red/white dutch-x girl. My brown eyes contrast nicely with my coat. Love those earth colors!! Love, Lucinda.

EZLeash, EZHarness, EZCollar

Some of us need harnesses when we fly with our buns to get them through the HSA line. Has anyone used these? They look great. Easy for the bunny to get in and out of too. (always a consideration!)

They sound like a nice company too...

for all our Italian bunny humans...

Anagrafe Conigli

This is the sweetest video...I want them all...

Sirius Lee funneh Bunneh :0)

Q: How do you know when you need to do some serious house cleaning?
A: When your bunny has his own dust bunnies!
I just had to laugh at Sirius Lee Cute yesterday morning, he was doing his normal morning inspection, he disappeared under Joshua’s bed (all polished floors remember) and he emerged out of the other side with two large fluffy dust bunnies attached to him, one on each side of his whiskers, he was hopping about none the wiser, but was looking at my strangely and I think, wondering why I was laughing at him! :0) They didn’t fall off on their own either, I had to pluck them off, LOL! Each one was as big as his head, he really looked so funny, didn't have the heart to leave them on and get the camera, I thought it kinder to get them off him, but today I wished I had got the camera :0) Boy I really needed to smile!

The Dust Bunny that lives under the bed ♥
