Canadian animal activists win fight to save rabbits...finally! Whew! : )
...Carmina Gooch, president and founder of the Rabbit Advocacy Group of British Columbia, estimated about 100 rabbits still remained at the University of Victoria campus, and eventually they would also be removed.
Admitting that there was "no easy solution" to the situation, Gooch said the university knew years ago the rabbit population was climbing and failed to react to the situation. She argued the City of Victoria did not help the situation in not banning the sale of domestic rabbits or in introducing rules related to the domestic breeding of the animals.
"I had even written [university] officials, and I know other people did too, asking what are they going to do about the rabbits? People, again in general, they leave things until it's too late. Or when it is really necessary to take action and then they decide lethal action, thinking it's quick and efficient, whereas it's not," Gooch said.
"People are still going to dump rabbits regardless, because that's what they do. Unless you change peoples' behavior and get them to value the animals and things, it's not going to get better. But the university's attitude that lethal control is acceptable nowadays that's wrong. It's morally wrong. We've got to look for alternatives. We're taking away the environment and habitat of so many species."...

Our mother was rescued off the street. She survived a tragedy in an outdoor cage that was attacked by a raccoon. Her other two companions were not so lucky. She survived on the streets until she was rescued and named Calamity. She was named after Calamity Jane, the frontierswoman of the Wild Wild West. The rescue came just in time as she was pregnant. A couple of weeks later she gave birth to us! Armageddon and Catastrophe, Army and Cat for short. Our names came from our mom's name and misadventures. In turn, we have had a life of love and security from the start. We need a furever home!!!

How to trim a rabbit's claws.
1) Drink Vodka.

3) Catch the rabbit. *hic* Maybe I should have done this BEFORE the vodka.
4) Sit the rabbit down in my lap.
5) Catch the rabbit.
6) Wrap the rabbit in a towel.
7) Have a tasmanian towel devil in my lap.
8) Drink more vodka and go catch the rabbit.
9) Give the rabbit a piece of papaya.

A Mr. Spock salute to all!!!! 1/26/11. I was so shattered to lose my home......you see I lost my sister too. The human said she was tired of taking care of us and wasn't about to run up vet bills. My sister was so very ill.......So when the RabbitMatch mom came into the room I went into Hyperdrive. The mom looked at me and sighed "E=mc2......yes, you can know where a dwarf dutch rabbit is OR how fast it is moving but not both"!!!!!!! Hhhhmmmmmm....I think these RabbitMatch humans are friendlies!!!! I recalculated. Well, how about a name??? Yes!!!! I am Epsilon Aurigae, a very active topic in astronomy circles these days!!!! By the time the mom had found the camera, I was ready to go into torpor from said early hyperactivity though!!!!! You can see that in my glamour shots........My landing gears were down!!!!!
So anyway, I weighed in at 4 lbs so.........I'm at the upper end of the dwarfs. Never mind!!!! My birthdate is 6/1/10 and I plan to stop growing in a few days!!!! Please admire my coppertone coat and perfect markings. I do have an adorable white freckle at the tip of both ears!!!! Beyond endearing!!!! Please energize your space pod, do email the moms first, please though, and materialize yourself here to visit me and the other kids!!!! Penny The Little Red Hen
Poor Penny (A1173538) has been @ the SLA Shelter since December 7th.
She was running around a neighborhood when a gentleman trapped her and called our Officers to come in and pick her up. Penny been the social animal that she is gets very excited when a human enters the room and clucks and talks for attention.
Penny has been with us over a month, please don’t let her spend m another week incarcerated.

My life in an abandoned pick up truck...an autobungraphy.
Hello to all, 1/18/11. My name is Tuonela. I am a dutch-x girl. My right side is so perfectly dutch but my left side has to be content with just a pretty salt and pepper coat. Last summer I was found housed in the back of that abandoned pickup truck, same as Appassionata. Whenever the fiend came to take some of us away, I always turned my left side and tried to hide in the corner. I've already graduated from the anger management and learning to trust class with a good report card. My birthdate is 1/1/10. I weighed in at 5 lbs 15 oz but hope to trim a few oz. I so cringe when people say..."but she's so large"!!!! I am not!!! I do hope you'll come to visit and see for yourself. Meanwhile, I need to attend to this mountain of greens!!! nom-nom-nom- CRUNCH!!!! Your perfectly lovable dutchgirl, Tuonela.

!!I have rescued Miss Kohana and decided to do some bunny bonding of my very own. So far--so very good! I worked on Mr. D[eacon Binkenhops] first. I wanted him to not negatively react to her scent so I used a lot of positive reinforcement (treats) and just a few squirts of tap water from a teeny tiny spray bottle as a reminder of what not to do (in his case, pouncing!). Boy is my baby smart because he caught on super fast and was soon snuggling up to me all over again (and got a lot more treats for doing so)!
It's only been a couple of days since the kids have met but already Mr. D is succumbing to Kohana, though I think she wishes he would be a little more aggressive ;) She is very sweet and patient with him and has bathed his head in kisses multiple times today.
ALL IS GOOD! I will send you pics soon when the two are camera-ready :)

1/13/11. So I had to put my foot down this morning, hold my breath until I turned blue so the mom would get the idea. My best color is blue, BLUE, BBBBLLLOOOOO!!!!!! I am satisfied with the result!!! Just look at my sensuous long dark eyelashes!!!! Pretty, huh!!!!! And the delicate dappled pattern on my ears!!! Delightful!!!! My personality is charming and cuddly too!!! Charlie, the mis-named, VICIOUS rabbit!
The shelter named him Lola. Once we bailed him, that name...ummm...didn't fit so he became Charlie. ; )
Charlie was also considered vicious. ummmm...he's not that either.
But the the Bureaucracy was going to put Lola/Charlie out of their misery and execute him (her--whatever!). Then an angel called us and told us about this little boy on death's door.
We love swooping in to foil the plans of The Bureaucracy. ; )
So the un-vicious, re-named little fuzzdude is watching out the window waiting for his furever home...
Notice his little feets too. : ( He deserves a better life that what he's been through. You gotta hoppy life to give Charlie???? He needs you.
Adopting Charlie will save two lives. Charlie's and another bun who can then escape The Bureaucracy.
