Any bunny angels out there with a home for 2 CUTE rescues buns????
Here are the two rescues I have-they are getting spay and neutered tomorrow. They are about 3-4 months old.Colby is a VERY SWEET reddish tan lop. Litter box trained I think she is a girl.Blue is super cute and friendly white with grey spots is working on litter box training half way there. I think he is a boy.Both love petting especially Colby!It would be great if you could put them up on RM. I am fostering them here in Joshua Tree-but I can deliver them!

'mara's excellent journey
Hello all, Monday evening I started out in Lisa's kitchen. So generous of Mr. Fluffston to loan me some of his excellent toys. Early Tuesday morning we were all packed and I took my place in my grand star's trailer carrier. Here I am in Mojave, taking a break to do some grooming, gotta keep the paws and nose sparkling, and relax with a snack. It was hot outside but as you can see I was well protected in my cocoon!!!!
Finally my new home at The Bunny Castle in Bishop CA!!!!!! I have a lovely home base and more than 190 new friends!!!! I especially like the California giants. They look like Toscanini just four times his size and their marks don't fade as much in the summer. Giant fuzzy mellow fellows!!!! I'm in love!!!!! AND would you believe, I am,, at 7 lbs 4 oz. one of the more petite buns at The Bunny Castle!!!!! Now listen up y'all!!!! From time to time Alinda will be asking you to buy a raffle ticket from The Bunny Castle OR click to vote for ME, Palomara , ( oh, well, The Bunny Castle, Bishop CA, that is!!!) on the Animal Rescue Site. What a Rescuer has to deal with daily...
So, I get up... and I check my emails. Five surrenders, one from a volunteer saying she can't come on her regular day this week, and one about a potential upcoming event. As it is, I work midnights, and I'm up at 8 am because we've got spays and neuters to deliver to/from the vet this morning, and I'm only getting three hours of sleep before a 12 hour overnight shift, but that's not here nor there... I check my email. I got the following email last night; "Hello My name is ***** ******. We have three beautiful bunnies who need a home. They started as indoor pets for our triplet daughters, but we quickly realized they were not suited for our home. We have other pets and they are not compatible.
Regretfully, we decided to try and keep them for the girls in an outdoor hutch, which worked during the cooler months, but now we are not happy with the situation and feel extremely badly for the bunnies, and that our girls need to give them up. Would it be possible for us to give them to the rescue and hope that you can place them in a proper indoor living environment, singly so that they receive the proper care?
We can not provide the proper care for them in an indoor environment, and the outdoor hutch is no longer a proper environment since they are fully grown. (We have had them approximately 1 year).
We live on a golf course in south Fort Myers and there is lots of other wildlife in the area which is becoming attracted to the hutch for a food source from the food and droppings. We could deliver the bunnies to you if you can find a proper home. I do not want to take them to the local animal control shelter. Please respond to my cell phone 239-***-**** or my husband's cell 239-***-****. What are your hours of operation and your location?
Thank you ***** ****** (Don't even get me started on the LONG LONG list of cliche "dumper" things in this email.) So I had replied last night; "We've just taken in sixteen bunnies, two ferrets and 30 guinea pigs in the last sixteen days, so things are a little cramped. HOWEVER... if you can the spay(s) ($45) or neuters ($35) I can commit to taking buns around August 16th. I just have to wait until a few of the adoptions / pick-ups clear before I can fit anybunny else into our schedule. If your rabbit is currently not spayed or neutered, and behavioral issues (such as spraying, biting, humping, chewing, etc) is part of the problem, please consider fixing your bunny and keeping them in your home - that really is the best place for them since there's so many rabbits being euthanized in local shelters (about 200 bunnies die in Florida shelters without homes every week because of the HIGH number of folks who buy them and dump them less than a year later) I'll just need to the following info from you ... (insert details about the bunnies here)

So imagine my surprise when I get back this email; "I sent pictures attached to my earlier email, please let me know if they do not come through again. I will re-attach.
Is there any possible way you could take these three before the 16th of August? The spay/neuter fees are no problem, we just want to find placement for them before we leave town on the 10th of August.
If it is not possible for you, are you aware of any other no-kill shelters that we could try in this region?
They are three beautiful flop eared bunnies, and it is important that we find loving homes for them so that we can assure our daughters that the bunnies are being cared for properly. As I mentioned in our earlier email, we have other indoor pets that are an issue with keeping the bunnies inside, and our work and school schedules are not conducive to giving the bunnies the care they deserve.
We are not sure of the sexes, as the per store could not guarantee the sex when we bought them, they were young. We do believe that there is at least 1 male in the trio. We had them indoors for a few months until they "became of age" and they started adult behaviors. They were then separated and moved outside.
Please help us if you possibly can.
We believe they are flop eared, possibly two females and one male, about 1 year old and in good health condition overall.
They have been very well fed. They are basically gentle, our 10 year old daughters hold them and bring them inside to play. " SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT:
What your first email SHOULD have read is:
"I have three ten year old triplet daughters who I thought would look cute with three bunny rabbits. The rabbits are no longer tiny and cute, and they are doing annoying things like pooping and chewing (you know, acting like rabbits) - and I want to get rid of them ASAP because we're going on vacation. Oh, by the way, when we first got tired of them we stuck them in hutches in the back yard to be forgotten, but it's 100 degrees outside, they just haven't died yet, and now we're going on vacation and want to make sure they are gone so we don't have to feel bad for them. Plus, we want to look like the heros to our little girls when we get to tell them the bunnies went off to some pretty farm where they will be loved and happy forever. Sorry we didn't bother to look into or read anything about rabbits when we got them. All we could think about is HOW CUTE they would look with our three matching daughters! Oh, and seriously, did you know these things actually kick when you try to hold them? Or that they scratch and geeze, now they all weigh like 8 lbs instead of being hampster-sized like they were at the pet store! They totally outgrew that tiny little "starter cage" in like a week! Anyway, if you could just drop what you're doing and come get them, regardless of how many animals you're already taking care of, that'd be great. If you have to let a few other rabbits die at the shelter to make room, that's fine. I don't have to feel bad about them, they weren't my bunnies! I'm sure you have nothing better to do anyway, so if you could come pick them up, awesome!

So Kristie, knowing that she REALLY cares about the health and well-being of the rabbits, but really REALLY dislikes people treating her and her staff like CRAP and worse, treating their animals like disposables... writes back; "I'll make you a deal. Seriously, so hear me out. I'll find a way to squeeze these bunnies in before the 10th, despite having NO room at all (We just took in 16, and over 30 guinea pigs, you saw that email, yes?) - but you have to do me a favor if I find a way to make that happen. Sit down with your ten year old and explain that getting pets and then not properly taking care of them, and ultimately "getting rid of them" isn't the answer. Seriously. It's VERY important children be taught the value of pets, and that you don't just dump them when they start "adult behavior". When people GET rabbits, 90% of them die or get dumped within the first year because they don't do any research first. If you guys had read up on rabbits before you got them, you would know that putting them outside is the #1 way to kill them quickly from stress and heat stroke - or that if you didn't fix them, they'd bite, hump, spray urine, etc. This is a GREAT lesson for your daughter to explain what went wrong - sit down and teach her that you guys made a BIG mistake and that you should never, ever get a pet without thinking about what is going to happen to them for their entire lives. That way when she grows up, she can be part of the solution rather than the problem. Unfortunately, research has shown that kids who grow up in homes who abandon animals are 80% more likely to get pets and dump them when THEY grow up. It's a terrifying trend. We spend $16,000 a year taking care of bunnies from people who "just got tired of them" as well as strays, kill shelter death-row bunnies, and while most owner surrenders cover the spay and neuter cost (our spays and neuters run from $35- $75 depending on the vet we have to use because we're overbooked) - that's just the bottom end. If your surrendered rabbit breaks a leg, or needs complicated tumor surgery, they get it. We've easily spent $800 on a single bunny for medical needs... We also spend two hours each screening and educating potential adoptive homes to make sure when your rabbit leaves here, it's the LAST time it gets bounced around in a home. We make sure they will live out their lives inside, part of the family, litter-trained, getting along with all their other pets, and that they are aware of all the joys AND problems that come with having house rabbits. It's HARD work, and we don't do it just to give folks a guilt-free way out of the pets they bought and no longer feel like taking care of. In the last two months, I found out I was pregnant, and my fiance dumped me and took off after I ended up getting a restraining order. I also had to leave my job as a police officer and go work in dispatch, which I loathe. So if I can go through all that, and still get up and take care of my 9 pets, and 85 animals that belonged to other people, trust me - anyone should be able to take on the responsibility of keeping the pets they got. Even if they are moving, even if they go on vacation, or go back to college, or whatever the latest excuse may be. We spend a TON of time trying to educate kids that pets aren't a toy or a convenience to just get rid of when you're tired of them being cute, young and easy. We don't want your daughter to think that there's some happy place where thousands of bunnies just magically find new happy homes - or worse, for her to think two years from now "Hey, let's buy some more baby bunnies!! We'll just dump 'em at that rescue when they get to be a year old!" - that's not fair to your daughter OR to any animal, and I'm sure you agree! We take in bunnies from death row, and now three of those death row shelter bunnies will have to die because we've got to make room for your three before you go on vacation. We're all parents here, and we just want to make sure that if we're giving you the easy way out with these poor bunnies, that you're going to at least make sure the cycle of buy-and-dump ends here for your family, and that you promise next time you get a pet, you'll do all the homework first and be SURE you can keep them for the 10+ years. There are plenty of "kill shelters" where you could take them, but I don't know of any no-kill rescue group who is going to magically make room in less than 7 days for three year old unfixed bunnies. The reality is that EVERYONE and their brother is emailing us to dump their bunnies before they go on vacation because the easter fun is wearing off - so your email is one of like fifty I actually answered and didn't just say "No, sorry, we're full." We're waiting on a response. But we wanted to let you guys know what we go through on a daily basis. Now, if you don't mind, Kristie's going to go back to sleep for about four hours before getting up, feeding the bunnies veggies, and then going off to work for 12 hours. *sigh*

I feel bad about this outcome and situation but I am glad to know there is someone like you that can handle our negative position and will try to make a positive one from it. This added stress I apologize for, any help or assistance that you provide will be most greatly appreciated. Please let me know a comfortable time line that will work. Are you the home for our newest dwarf lionhead????? Plz say yes!
A slightly less exuberant greeting from your Gardner, Earl Stanley, that is, 7/26/10. Do you know that while we all thought I was a little girl, there was a long waiting list of adopters hopping from one foot to the other for me to become available??? The mom even feared there might be fisticuffs. Now that I turned out to be a little boy, all names have been crossed off. How can this be??? I'm still tiny, 2 lbs 6 oz. I'm still extraordinarily fuzzy, sweet and a cuddly kissy bunny yet the emails have stopped (sob). I coached the mom to get my mane just right in the new photos but I'm afraid she is hopeless. There are NO hard and fast givens in the personalities of boy vs.girl. I want a chance to tug at the strings of your heart!!!!! I am now ready to go home with you right now, today!!!! Sex after death
SEX AFTER DEATH .....
A couple made a deal that whoever died first would come back and inform the other of the sex after death.
Their biggest fear was that there was no after life at all.
After a long life together, the husband was the first to die.

Notice the stunning ears! and i'm available to love you too!
***slurp***yuckos!!!***blech***gack****slurp!!!! Oh, hi there!!! Were you looking at me??? Do I really look like my photos??? well, yes and no. I'm a stunning New Zealand White bunnygirl, covered with grease and transmition fluid which I'm trying my best to clean off. You see, I was a cast off Easter bunny. I know I was on my own on the street for a few weeks. I spent a lot of time hiding under cars. That's how I survived. My eyelids are sunburned and I'm thin and dirty but I'm alive and here at RabbitMatch. I chose my name, Claudina, because I'm just as beautiful as the puffy clouds at sunrise. Right now I weigh only 3.25 lbs and my ribs poke out but the moms will fix that with the bountiful RabbitMatch chow platter. I was born 1/1/10 and am almost 5 months old today, 5/21/10. I have a really great personality. We rabbits are very forgiving. Right now I'm small enough that I'm perfectly comfy with being held. Tenderly, Fluffily Yours, Claudina.

Greetings!!! It is 5/17/10 and I've found a spot at RabbitMatch. My name is Kioko. It means, "rabbit child who brings joy" and I certainly intend to devote myself to just that higher purpose!!!!! I'm a dwarf...buggy eyes, small ears, the whole package. Not to mention my striking agouti coat. I fear the mom and camera were not up to capturing my beauty...oh dear!!!!! That means you'll have to email for an appointment and come and visit!!! YAY!!!!!!
My birthdate is 11/1/09. I'm fully grown. I weigh about 3 lbs. Mom will have the exact number as soon as she finds out who took the scale!!!! I'll tell you more about myself in my next update. Right now I want to give my nice denbox a nom-nom. With a binky of love and joy, Your Kioko.

Oh hi there!!!! I'm Gardenia, aka "Puff the Magic Bunlet" checking in to RabbitMatch. I'm a baby albino lionhead about 6 weeks old. That makes my birthday 4/1/10. I weigh exactly ONE pound. What I'm doing here, I don't know. The moms suspect that I came from a breeder who decided I wasn't a champion. Well, Boo-Hoo!!!! I love my name, fragrant white flower...I'm a happy bouncy baby enjoying my toys and alfalfa hay. The big rabbits are very nice to me and keep me company although of course I have my own little condo. I have a stuffed rabbit toy twice my size to cuddle. The moms estimate I'll be ready for that special surgery that makes me eligible to go home with YOU around the end of July. I'll keep you posted about my doings, OK??? Second half of Roslind and Orlando!!
Oh heavens how good it is to be here at RabbitMatch. I'm the husbun of Roslind. She relates our sad story. Yes we are a couple but no, right now we can only share adjoining condos. We are not housed together because, well......you know, fresh from surgery and all.........however, we'd be ready to rebond in a few weeks if you're loking for a loving pair of friendly spot-x buns. Indeed our former home was filth and starvation. I weighed 4 lbs today, 4/15/10. I should weigh 5. My feet and tail have almost no fur. The fur on my tummy is all dredlocks. I can't wait 'til my next shed!!!!! I'm told my birthdate is 6/1/08. The mom's will investigate that further. I am an amazingly outgoing boy. There is dramatic handsomeness under this sad exterior. Don't you just want to take me home, hold me close and pet my silky ears????HHHMMMMM?????? Sure hope your xpen is large enough for both myself and Roslind. Yes I do nosebonks. Hello, RabbitMatch fans. I'm Roslind aka "Roz" half of the Roslind/Orlando couple. We were confiscated from a hoarder and brought in 5/1/10. We were in such bad shape, the moms didn't want to photograph us right away. You know, this IS a family friendly website and we didn't want to make the children cry. Upon arrival I was giving birth to non-viable babies. You see I weighed less than 4 lbs and I should weigh 5. The fur has been burned off my feet and tail you all know about urine scald..filth and starvation was the order of the day in my former home. You might expect the hoarder to do jail time but no such luck. Did you know that even for killing endangered species, the maximum charge is just a class A or B misdemeanor???? So what hope is there for a domestic rabbit????? I'm just glad to be alive, safe and in a lovely, nurturing environment. I am a gorgeous hemilop redhead girl. Spot-x. Supposedly I am 2 years old so my birthdate is 6/1/08. I am writing this on 5/15/10. You COULD have me in to rehabilitate myself in YOUR home, you know.....Craftily yours, Roslind. Someone tried to help some bunnies and...
From Kim DeWoody at Leaps & Bounds Rabbit Rescue...Leaps & Bounds has been contacted by a dog/cat rescuer in Oroville. She has rescued 2 which has turned into 16. They range in age from just about 1 year to 3 months old. Oroville has 1 vet that does rabbit s/n. He's charging almost $200 for a spay. On the adoption end of things, people that are responding to her ads want to get the rabbits for food. She recognizes that she's in over her head and is willing to do whatever it takes to help the rabbits. Right now, they are communal living in an old aviary enclosure. She is working on getting additional caging and housing materials so the rabbits can be sexed and separated. I am working on getting someone closer to her to go over to help with sexing and separating. If that falls through, I will be going up myself to do it. They are all up-eared and multi-colored. No pictures yet. Can anyone help with taking even one or two? I'll have more specifics about the rabbits themselves once I pay her a visit.

They are all under a year old with 5 or 6 babies. There are approx 18 that are communal living in an outside dilapidated aviary and one that is not part of the 'family' but still living in another part of the aviary. Their caregiver is a 78 year old kind-hearted lady who has done cat and dog rescue for more than 20 years. Last summer she took in 2 rabbits and we all know what happens after that. She is reaching out for help with these little guys and wants to do what is best for them but Oroville (Butte County in general) is extremely limited in resources for rabbits. I have enlisted the help of a couple of volunteers from Paradise Animal Control. They are going to try and come up with some sort of building, barn stall, garage or ? that is inside where we can set up individual cages and the volunteers to help with them. They are also going to approach many of their local vet contacts to see if any of them can or will provide donated or low cost services for this situation. All of the rabbits appear to be generally healthy with the exception of skin issues. There isn't a the usual crusty skin with fur mites just hair loss. The sooner we can get the rabbits out of there and into rescue groups the better. Are there any groups that can take any of them in in their current condition (Thursday or Friday this week)? I hope but am not very confident that we can get them quality medical care in Oroville. I'm attaching just a few photos and have more if anyone would like to see them. I will be going back today to try and get the rest and double check burrows. In the meantime, the first rabbit Marcy picked up had a baby stuck in the birth canal. Again, Oroville does not have ANY rabbit resources. The closest vet is Dr Dohner on the other side of Chico approximately 45 minutes away. Daisy was taken to Dr Dohner as soon as possible. He kept her overnight to stabilize and make her more comfortable. She is scheduled for surgery today. With a 15% discount, the estimate came to $602.73 of which $205. has already been donated. For today, Dr Dohner's office can take credit card donations by phone if anyone can and would like to help with Daisy's surgery. Dr Dohner's office can be reached at 530-343-1234.

our first pic from Europe is from LA...
couldn't resist taking a pic of our last hummingbird nest in our bougainvillea bush/tree outside our backdoor. they've nested here every year we can remember and we've had some interesting adventures with them too. most of you know we're not only in EU for two months, but moved out of our LA home too. As we were getting furniture picked up by Out of the Closet, the mom hummingbird flew in the kitchen door (next to her nest) and headed for the livingroom window. Two movers and Art had to save this itty bitty feather duster...Art finally got his hand around her (once she was exhausted) and gently enclosed her in his palm and took her back out the kitchen door. she's fine now and i'm sure the baby birds-to-be are happy to be warm again.One year a mom bird tried raising two babies in one tiny tiny nest. once they started getting bigger it was obvious it wasn't going to last. i put a cardboard box underneath the nest with a sheet fluffed up inside. sure enough, that day when i got home from work, one of the little kids was sleeping soundly fluffed in the sheet. ...now what to do, what to do? i brought the little feller in and made sugar tea which he gulped with an eyedropper--and since i had collected the nests every year, i had plenty extras--i plopped him in one and let him spend the night on our kitchen table. next morning i taped him in his new nest back up near his brother so they had side-by-side condos. Unfortunately, one didn't make it, but he was laid to rest in the daffodil forest to help them grow. it was a nice ending to our 14-year stay at Village Green. our first pic from Europe is from LA...

My mother led by example, demonstrating that one’s personal and professional life is not static, but rather an evolution in personal development and fulfillment that includes taking a bit of risk from time to time. Additionally, both my grandmothers raised families in challenging circumstances – one in Korea shortly after World War II, the other in India in the 1950s. As I consider their histories, I’m reminded of how much I have to learn from them and the lives they’ve chosen to lead. On this Mother’s Day, I wondered how I might draw a connection between them and what we’ve learned traveling around the world. One of the most universal and special moments we encounter (and occasionally have the good fortune to capture) is that of a mother holding her child. I must say...totally cute!
We tried out a new harness from EZLeash for our 3lb bunny boy, Buster, for when we fly (for security checkpoint and in-cabin). It is Absolutely AWESOME! It's non-stressful for him and me (it takes no effort to put it on!), padded, top quality. He just stepped his widdle paws right into it and it's made snug on his back. Check these out!! Hosting chefs who cook rabbit (or meat generally) are quite unappealing. I'll be staying elsewhere instead of your chain of historic inns. This 'news' will also go out to house rabbit groups internationally.

Springsteen allows his humans to call him Bruce...
Update on one of our recently adopted furkids!Yay Springsteen!
We've shortened the name Springsteen to just Bruce - it seems to fit him. My mom is from New Jersey, so I can't tell you how excited she is about the name alone. So far, he's been pretty good about going where he's supposed to, not chewing stuff (my finger being a notable exception), and not getting into too much trouble. Our apartment is small enough that we feel comfortable just letting him run around when we're home, so he's getting plenty of exercise - he's still a little chubby though, of course. He has a few "hiding" places - I use quotes because he's not as hard to find as he thinks he is. Danny noted that he thumps when he wants attention, and he's figured out how to get on the couch and the bed - he's almost like a cat, he'll come to you when he wants attention, otherwise he'll just run around.

Our Wild Ride...
We'll see how far we get in 65 days. Our determination is to camp, hostel, couchsurf or b&b through England, BeNeLux, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain -- and Morocco, Austria, Czech Republic and Germany if there's time to spare...ha! We also swear we're not in any hurry to be anywhere so we may see less than we think. ah, well, for next time. We are planning on staying out of the giant cities. we can see them at our leisure some other time. We're looking for nature, smaller towns and real people. Start point: LA, CA USA 5/11/10.
