Tikki-chan is our (available!) 2lb 6oz bundle of luuuuvvvvvv...

Greetings!!!!  Like many rabbits here at RabbitMatch, humans loved us and cared for us at some point but then suddenly we were cast out by these same humans.  No flyers posted in neighborhood, not ads on CraigsList, no panicky phone messages..............incomprehensible!!!!   Anyway, the moms say I'm a little charmer and I tend to agree with them.   I'm a small agouti boy.  No dwarfish features, just small.   My birthdate is 1/1/10 and I weigh only 2 lbs 6 oz  so you see my point.

Mom must have been in her blue phase this morning because her photos fail to demonstrate the rich hues of my agouti coat.  Donate a photo studio to her somebody, won't you please????   I hope I'm not here long enough to have to help her choose drapes that are more in my color palette!!!  Sheesh, the responsibilities that fall to a small  rabbit!!!!!!!!  So anyway, I chose the name Tikki-chan.  Sort of makes you think of wonderful tropical colors, yes???    I would fit in nicely with the unpeeled willow rabbit tunnels and baskets....... Hhhhmmmm, there they are on the internet.......Could I have several, please????  Hope you hop over soon so we can meet....Bunnyhugs, Tikki-chan.

Twue wabbitude! and available for adoption too!

****sound of trumpets****  a netherland dwarf-x has joined RabbitMatch.   As many great  works of art, literature  and music, I am untitled at the moment.  Stay tuned, please.  I checked in 4-15-10.  My birthdate is 8-1-09.  I am classic white with flashing ruby eyes.  I had the mom take dozens of photos to capture my dwarfness but mom was not up to the challenge.  So I had to settle for some action shots.  Hope you like them  Well, you had better, I'm a little girl with a BIG RABBITUDE!!!!

Posted via email from rabbitmatch's posterous

Is this the sweetest gentlest face you've ever seen??!!

Checking in, 4-20-10. I call myself Pearblossom.   My coat is a delicate golden champagne hue.  I was a cast off pet, wandering the streets.  Then a nice family stopped their car and scooped me up in a  warm fuzzy jacket.     Smiling faces all around, pets and ooohs, aaahhhs,   I am a very pretty rabbit, you see.   Suddenly I had a real home and I believed it to be forever!!!!  Sadly, I was in for a letdown.  The family found me right after Easter while Spring Break was on......  Once school started again though, my newly bonded friend decided she didn't have time for both her schoolwork and a rabbit so I had to go.   (sniff)   At least this time I was dropped off at RabbitMatch.    It is quite nice here though I wish the other kids would stop calling me "Pearbottom"  !!!!!!!  I mean, give me a break!!!!  Rabbits kept in small cages tend to gain weight.  Here at RabbitMatch, I have bunny gym equipment in the form of Cottontail Cottages with stairs.  So there!!!

Oh, my vitals???  Well, I'm a zaftig 5 lbs 12 oz.  Birthdate 2-1-09.  My personality is as sweet and enchanting as pearblossoms.   Maybe we could work on flower arranging together??? Roses are especially yummy!!!!   Bunnykisses, your Pearblossom.

Daltry adoption update!

from Dalty's mom...she's in wuv...

Daltry has been such a welcome addition to our home. It was hard to tell in the first 24-48 hours what a cuddlebug he would turn out to be. but in the past couple days he has really started trusting me so much more. He runs over to me & puts his little head on my lap when I sit down on the ground, & allows me to pick him up onto my lap for a little bunny love. He loves to have his face pet...he starts closing his eyes in just seconds. & he goes from the head-on-the-floor submissive state to his comfortable resting pose much quicker. also, he likes to keep his pen nice & messy. I'll go tidy everything up, & he will move everything & turn things on their side. silly guy!

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR PETS ACROSS AMERICA

On Tuesday, April 20th, the Supreme Court struck down a ten-year federal ban on videos showing violence against animals.  These videos, referred to as "crush" videos, because they show women crushing to death small animals with their bare feet or high heels, were once widely distributed over the Internet and appealed to people with a specific sexual fetish.

Justice Samuel Alito, the only justice to vote in support of the ban, commented that Tuesday's ruling will probably spur new crush videos because the ruling, "has the practical effect of legalizing the sale of such videos."

Although all 50 states currently have laws against animal cruelty, this federal statue helped prosecute people who took part in these "crush" videos.  America NEEDS "crush" videos to be banned.  Pets lives are at stake....

Please..... sign The Philanthropy Team's

Supreme Court strikes down Gallegly's animal cruelty law » Ventura County Star

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court struck down a federal law Tuesday aimed at banning videos that show graphic violence against animals, saying it violates the right to free speech.

The justices, voting 8-1, threw out the criminal conviction of Robert Stevens of Pittsville, Va., who was sentenced to three years in prison for videos he made about pit bull fights.

The law, which was sponsored by Rep. Elton Gallegly, R-Simi Valley, was enacted in 1999 to limit Internet sales of so-called crush videos, which appeal to a certain sexual fetish by showing women crushing to death small animals with their bare feet or high-heeled shoes.

The videos virtually disappeared once the measure became law, the government argued.

But Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, said the law goes too far, suggesting that a measure limited to crush videos might be valid. Animal cruelty and dog fighting already are illegal throughout the country.

In dissent, Justice Samuel Alito said the harm animals suffer in dogfights is enough to sustain the law.

Alito said the ruling probably will spur new crush videos because it has “the practical effect of legalizing the sale of such videos.”

Animal rights groups, including the Humane Society of the United States and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and 26 states joined the Obama administration in support of the law. The government sought a ruling that treated videos showing animal cruelty like child pornography, not entitled to constitutional protection.

But Roberts said the law could be read to allow the prosecution of the producers of films about hunting. And he scoffed at the administration’s assurances that it would only apply the law to depictions of extreme cruelty. “But the First Amendment protects against the government,” Roberts said. “We would not uphold an unconstitutional statute merely because the government promised to use it responsibly.”

Stevens ran a business and Web site that sold videos of pit bull fights. He is among a handful of people prosecuted under the animal cruelty law. He noted in court papers that his sentence was 14 months longer than professional football player Michael Vick’s prison term for running a dogfighting ring.

Oh Very Very Bad News...

The twisty road to hoppiness...

Helps if I send the picture too...kathunk!

Elkie was an evidence bun (and all that implies).  He and Esmie were the only two rabbits left in the yard when animal control got there.  There were hungry dogs in that yard with them.

On 9/2/08 they showed up at Rabbit Match's door.  Elkie will tell you about himself (and Esmie) below.  Elkie was adopted today and in love with a bunny named Butters.  : )

Elkhart's December update.  I'm feeling so much better.  I've been very happy here at RabbitMatch.  Mom says I weigh 5 lbs and a hair.  I almost qualify for a large dwarf.  Almost is a tough sell for a rabbit these days though.  I've had some playdates with Esmeralda and...Wait!!!...Yes, I do take full responsibility for only partial success.  Maybe I need a bunnygirl who stands up to me and let's me know who's boss!?!  What do you think??  Mom always appreciates advice!!  BunnyNoseRubs, Your Elkie.

We were rescued together.  Our story is so grim we can't share it with the RabbitMatch volunteers because they'll cry.  Suffice it to say, we're safe now.  We're working on regaining our health and putting on some weight so our names can go up on   "the calendar". When we're all better, we'd like to be rebonded but we're OK with going off with other buns since we're well versed in cohabitation.

We have the best personalities!!  We believe in giving humans another chance. Right now our veterinarian says  we need to stop talking and  rest.  Best, Elkhart and Esmeralda.

Esmie's still searching for the right human...you out there???

(thank you, COHRS, for finding space for two really great kiddos.)

nom*nom*nom*snort*******new cutie pie at Rabbit Match!! She's lookin' for love!

nom*nom*nom*snort*******Hello there, it is 4/15/10 and I'm checking in. *** nom*nom***  Bunhilda is the name!!!  I'm a saucy cinnamon/dutch-X bunnygirl.  I was born 10/1/09.  I'm about 7 months old and I should weigh a pound more than I do. *nom* Good thing the RabbitMatch moms have an all-you-can eat plan for buns like me.  I inhaled my greens this morning  and am keeping my face in the pellet cup *nom***nom*  Oh, but I must call your attention to something!!!!  My schnozzie!!!  No, it is not the result of my getting too close while disapproving of a freshly painted white wall!!!!   I really do have a nightlight nose, white upper lips and an adorable little spot on my chin.  Disappears when I strike a profile pose!!!!

My former human was so clever at hiding me from her landlord that she actually forgot I was in the closet and I  needed to eat every day.  I'm glad she dropped me off with the RabbitMatch moms before I became so thin I disappeared when turned sideways.  I now have toys, a spiffy denbox, a huge litterbox with fresh hay daily...Life is suddenly good!!!!!  With a chow-crumbly bunnykiss, Your Bunhilda.

Yuri wins the gold!!!  Best snooze of 2010 Winter Games.  And he's available for adoption too!

from one of our wonderful volunteers, Camille.

I try to give all of the bunnies some special bonding time for about an hour before I leave.  Lots of cuddles and petting and picture snapping.  Like I noted, Yuri just LOVES to be cradled, especially in the late afternoon when he is worn out from his Xpen session and is ready for a bunny snooze.  He gets so comfortable and cuddly, it couldn't be better.  I just have to watch out for the little bunny nibbles he gives my hands from time to time.  I guess it's just his way of bonding...

What a great bunch of kids...and watch the video

...this is one of our RabbitMatch.org volunteers.  She's just a nice as she sounds.

Please help the littler kids at ACES get their playground.  : )  video: http://www.races4aces.com

Family & Friends:

For the last little while, a few of my friends and I have been working with a sweet little bilingual charter school in South LA. It's called A.C.E.S., it's a K-5 with 130 kids (chosen by lottery), and by the time the kids finish 5th grade, they are fully bilingual. It's a pretty incredible place.

The downside of being such a tiny school is that they get almost no money from the school district. They survive on donations, and they put everything they get into the curriculum. As a result, they have no playground. Just a blacktop, a backboard and a tetherball. Don't get me wrong -- you'll never hear these kids complain. But it's pretty sad. I suppose at this point I could toss out a platitude like "All kids deserve a place to play". But I think instead I'll just stick with what I know. I know these kids. And these kids deserve a place to play.

So my friends and I got together and decided to run the Orange County Marathon to help raise the money for the playground. (We even talked the principal into running with us!) It works like this: dedicate four months to training for a 26 mile race through the OC, and with any luck, you sponsor me. For however much you can. Any amount will help.

I've been training since February. (I'm up to 19 miles this Saturday.) The race is a month away. And now is the point where you come in. I know times are tough. It's probably not the best time to be asking for help. But just know that anything you can give will make a huge difference in the lives of South LA kids for years to come.

So. You can head over to our main website http://www.races4aces.com to watch a little video that a few members of our group made with the kids' help, and to learn more about the school and our playground project. Or if you're ready to help out, you can go straight to my fundraising page, http://www.active.com/donate/Playground4ACES/rundutchessrun. Either way, thanks for reading such a long email, and for being the kind of person I feel comfortable sending something like this to.

Thanks!
Danielle

The Great Office War -- You MUST Watch This Video!!!

Who can resist this face...?

Skaya is one of our bunderful adoptables at RabbitMatch.org.  She's been waiting for a home for over a year.

Here's just part of her story...

...Hello all!!!    It is Feb. '10 and YES, I'm still very much available!!!  I had the mom take some fresh glamour shots of "mois".  We were aiming to demonstrate my sleek, matte, lean and large physique.  I mean it is scandalous that a beauty such as myself  is still a wallflower!!!  I have everything going for me!!  Looks!!  Personality!!!  And I'd fit nicely into your  family.  The younger set wouldn't even THINK of trying to pick me up.  I weighed 8 lbs 10 oz today. I truly am a Giant, on the smaller side, of course.  Lovingly yours, Skaya

11/1/09 update for Plisetskaya.  Hello All, I weighed in at 8 lbs 8 oz.  I'm a sleek, beautiful girl, no dewlap to speak of!!!  I have privileges!!!  Mom doesn't bother with the run for me.  No sir!!!  I do laps around the room  free style!!!  Of course when I run past the mom cleaning up the room for the day, I pause to give her ankles a few bunny kisses.  I'm that kind of rabbit.   Love Skaya

Hullo, it's me, Skaya with my 9/9/09 update.  Weight = 8 lbs even!!!  You should see me race back and forth in the 35 ft rabbit run when mom calls my name!!  I'm smart as well as pretty!!!  Lovingly yours, Skaya.

Hi!!  Skaya here w my August update.  I weighed in at 7 lbs. 14 oz.!!  heading toward giant status, I think!!!  My stepsister, Ursula, was adopted, but, yes!!  I'm still very much here.  I'm still a growing girl and an armful at that!!! Whether your lap is large or small, it will be perfect for me!!!  I've been wowing them at offsite adoptions but I'm waiting especially for you!!  Pirouettes across the room, your Skaya.

Plie, plie, pas de bourre........****hoppity** thump****...oh, mom says it's break time, so I'll take this opportunity to pass on my May update.  First of all, let's change that birthdate to 10/1/08.  I just had my first MAJOR shed and it was a dooozie.  Almost kind of reptilian (shudder).  ANYWAY, I now have a sparkling glossy jet black coat with the most delicate sprinkling of a few white hairs.  Most fetching.  Imagine a few snowflakes on the windswept obsidian lava flows at Mt. Lassen......got that picture???  I'll just practice my dance routines until you get here, OK??  With a pirouette or two, just for you, Plisetskaya aka Skaya.

Oh, and I weighed in this month at 6 lbs 14 oz.  Just perfect.  : )

Hello Los Angeles!!  Well, what a surprise!!  First I find myself saved from abandonment by the RabbitMatch moms and then I'm thinking I must be looking in a mirror....There is Ursula and we look exactly alike!! My name is Plisetskaya, you can call me Skaya for short but I chose my formal name to remind you of my incredible beauty and grace. I'm another gorgeous black, silky girl.   I weighed in at 5 lbs 3 oz on 2/1/09.  My birthdate is 3/1/08.

Veganzilla...one Very Smart 'Zilla!!

I know, I know, You think we NEED meat protein. That is what I used to believe, too. The truth is we don’t. Now, I don’t want to get all preachy and stuff. So, I will avoid coming off as sanctimonious if I can.  There are just simply too many reasons to adopt a vegan diet!

Trust me. I understand all about the manly need to chase something down and kill it and then eat parts of it and wear other parts and show off other parts as decorations in the home. It harbors back to the primitive wild instinct of the hunter gatherer thing. It’s all cool.  There seems to be some sort of right of passage when a guy kills their first animal. I don’t know what it is necessarily, but I can relate to it. I just don’t see it as necessary anymore. Not in today’s world.

A new classic...Twas the night before Easter...

Twas the night before Easter, and all through the house, all the bunny's were chewing on a nice piece of couch
The carrots were hung near their beds with great care, in hopes they approve and don't nom on my hair
The wires all up and out of the way, no tv or computer, no phone or a fray
The water dish full and the plate of veggies out, for the Great Rabbit to have after he hops all about
The evening was warm and quiet, the stars danced in the sky, a twinkle of kale in each rabbit's eye
In hops the Great Rabbit, without making a sound, with the Easter pizza he hops all around
He has some water, it's been a long night, and chomps on some veggies, no need for a light
He spots some chairs, some carpet, and ponders a bit, *I better not eat that it might make me sick*
Out with a leap and into the air, on his way to other bunnies, some lops and a hare.

Secrets of the Silk Road - Bowers Museum

Went to see this Wednesday. Truly breathtaking. 1800 BCE - 1000 CE. The fabric, the mummies, the grave goods. They even had dessicated wonton and cookies (!!) from 1000 years ago. It was actually a high point for me...i've been reading on this area for years. So Go!!

Paralyzed Rabbit Eases Therapy for Hospitalized Children

Kudos, nosebonks and binkies all around!!

Easter is a bad time for bunnies...So we Really Want to Thank Los Angeles Animal Services and Interim General Manager, Kathy Davis, for implementing a rabbit adoption moratorium during pre-Easter week in all our city shelters.  This delays impulse 'buying' a live animal as a gift.  Never a good idea.  All those wonderful adopters out there can still choose their animal companion, take care of the necessary paperwork and then pick up their new fuzzkid Tuesday, April 6th.

Thank you LAAS!

You rock for the bunnies!

Your Rabbit Could Be on "The Dr. Oz Show"!

Calling All Zootooers!

“The Dr. Oz Show” and Zootoo have teamed up to find the perfect pet for the show’s upcoming “pet peeve” episode!

Dr. Oz, America’s doctor, is looking for fun, energetic people who are comfortable appearing on national television to ask their questions about their pets' behavior and health.

So if you live in the New York/Tri-State area and have pet peeves with your dog shedding too much, a cat that scratches too much, and/or a rabbit that chews too much — send in your story and photos of you and your pet!

Check out the story for all the details on submitting your pet:

Have a Peeve With Your Pet? You Could Be on "The Dr. Oz Show"!

And the show is scheduled to tape on Tuesday, April 6 — so be sure to act fast!

Hope to see you on screen!
