: ) WOMEN WHO KNOW THEIR PLACE Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict. She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands. She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem happy to maintain the old custom. Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, "Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?' The woman looked Ms Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said, “Land mines.”

It makes it all the more incredible when you discover that Buster is blind…amazing.

Buster is an Irish Hare that was found when she was a leveret, only few hours old! The cutest creature you’ll ever see, she was sitting still in the middle of a road when she was picked up. Emaciated and dehydrated, she was taken into care with the intention of releasing her once she was weaned. Along the way, we discovered she was blind, so not suitable for release. Buster has been living with myself and my husband ever since. This blog tells her story. Hence the title, Buster’s Journey.

LA + CA Laws Prohibiting Live Animal Sales! Yay!!!!

SELLING live animals on public streets has been illegal for a while in LA and in a brand new State law [eff 1/1/12].

BUYING live animals on the street will become illegal after final City Council vote Wednesday, August 10.

Real fines: $250 first violation, $500 second, and $1,000 third. For a $10 or $15 bunny!

THIS IS FANTASTIC -- pending that final vote!

Contacting your City Councilman might not hurt. An easy email.

Senate Bill Banning 'street' sales of Animals is signed by Governor Brown!!!!

California got it right!!!

Senate Bill 917 is Signed into Law!

This is great news for all animals, especially the all-too-familiar Santee Alley baby bunnies sold in downtown Los Angeles!  Please email Senator Ted Lieu and thank him for introducing the bill and fighting to make sure it passed and also to Governor Brown for signing the bill.  Believe it or not, there was much opposition to the bill by rabbit breeders [ugh!] and dog breeders and canine AKC clubs, etc…

Please let them know how thankful we are for their efforts.  The bill goes into effect on January 1, 2012!

good info on washing veggies for your bunbuns...

home vegetable wash

 

It's important to wash your veggies before feeding. Here's a recipe for
an inexpensive home vegetable wash: 2 cups water, 2 cups vinegar, 2
T baking soda and 2 T lemon juice.) Water and soap alone won't remove
most pesticides as they are designed to adhere to the fruit through rain and
other pollutants. You actually need a little acid (vinegar and lemon juice)
to break them. You can keep the wash in a spray bottle, just spray, let it sit for several
seconds, then rinse off.
